The UNCSA
Art Committee oversees the acquisition and curation of Visual Art on UNCSA
Campus and/or under the auspices of UNCSA, excluding temporary exhibits inside
individual arts schools or departments. The committee works
to augment the existing collection by seeking donations of Modern and
Contemporary Art that will both enhance the campus environment and serve as
valuable pedagogical tools. The
Committee advises the Chancellor on aspects of Visual Art on campus including:
• Gifts of
Art
• Permanent
Collection
• Selection,
siting, and appearance of works of art in public spaces
• Care,
display and restoration of works of art in the collection
• Design
and use of temporary and permanent exhibits and exhibit space
Committee Composition
The UNCSA
Art Committee, made up of twelve (12) members appointed by the Chancellor or
Chancellor’s designee shall meet, when necessary (typically once per semester)
to review proposed gifts of art to UNCSA. The Committee shall include representatives from the following areas:
a. Archives
b.
Budget and Finance;
c. College student body;
d. Development Office;
e. Facilities Services;
f. Faculty Council;
g. General Council;
h. High school student body;
i.
Staff Council;
j. UNCSA Foundation
k. Visual Arts faculty;
l.
Winston-Salem community representative
A Subcommittee
or Executive Committee responsible for aesthetic decisions, composed of members
of the committee trained in Visual Art, Art History, and/or related fields, and
will meet monthly and will prepare the agenda for full committee meetings.
Typical composition of this committee includes:
a. College student body;
b. Advancement;
c. High school student body;
d. Visual Arts Faculty;
e.
Art History Faculty
